Imaginaction
Imaginaction is a dynamic and thought-provoking theatrical production that blends drama, spoken word, music, satire, and ensemble storytelling to ignite civic consciousness and community-driven innovation. Set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s ongoing political, social, and economic challenges, the production confronts the nation’s deeply rooted issues like corruption, insecurity, poor infrastructure, unemployment, and gender inequality, while proposing a compelling alternative: the power of imagination backed by collective action.
At its core, imaginaction is an exploration of civic engagement and the role of community organizing in building a better society. It challenges the culture of passive complaint and emphasizes the importance of agency, which is the ability of everyday citizens to intervene and drive change within their communities. Through a blend of humor, realism, and emotional resonance, the play urges its audience to shift from helplessness to action, from silence to strategic participation. It reinforces the need for total and an urgent mindshift from cultural and sociopolitical barriers towards true transformation. According to the creator, ‘what you do, what you hear and what you say is who you become. It argues that by imagining the ideal and taking forward actions, we can change our realities.
Structured around a chorus-driven narration and multiple scenes that dramatize real-life situations like police response, electricity failure, unemployment, gender and sexual based violence, and educational inequality. The play illustrates how innovative solutions can emerge when communities come together with a shared vision. The inclusion of positive case studies such as BudgIT, SlumSchool, She SABI, and Jos Green center reinforces the idea that sustainable change is possible through grassroots efforts and civic innovation.
The objective of imaginaction is threefold:
Firstly, to raise awareness about the importance of community organizing and agency as a tool for societal transformation;
Secondly, to inspire audiences to reimagine the role they play as active citizens; and to promote local problem-solving, inclusivity, and self-led development.
Then lastly this production is not just a performance, it is a call to action, inviting every Nigerian to dream, organize, and act towards the future they desire.
