Waterside

WATERSIDE

A Theatre Production on Taboos, Totemism, Climate, and Culture.

Waterside is an internationally presented, critically resonant theatre production by Kininso Koncepts Productions (Nigeria), written and directed by Joshua Alabi. Rooted in the cultural and spiritual landscapes of the Niger Delta, the production explores totemism, taboos, environmental degradation, and the enduring tension between tradition, faith, and survival.

Originally premiered in Lagos at Alliance Française, Waterside began its journey on Nigerian soil before expanding beyond national borders. The production was later staged internationally, including a performance at the Capstone Theatre, Liverpool Hope University (UK) on 23 March 2025, marking a significant milestone in its global trajectory and affirming its relevance to diverse audiences worldwide.

Blending intense drama, dark humour, live music, and poetic storytelling, Waterside presents a universal narrative through a distinctly African lens, one that speaks powerfully to global conversations on climate justice, ancestral memory, youth disillusionment, and cultural identity.
