Waterside, an internationally acclaimed theatre production by Kininso Koncepts Productions (Nigeria), written and directed by Joshua Alabi. Deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual landscapes of the Niger Delta, the play interrogates totemism, taboos, environmental degradation, and the fragile balance between tradition, faith, and survival.
Having premiered in Lagos at Muson Center, Waterside began its journey on Nigerian soil before resonating with audiences beyond its borders. Its international presentation, including a performance at the Capstone Theatre, Liverpool Hope University (UK), affirmed the work’s global relevance and critical resonance.
On 20 March 2026, Waterside will be staged in London as part of the Black Athena Festival, bringing its powerful narrative to a new international audience. Through intense drama, dark humour, live music, and poetic storytelling, the production offers a universal story told through a distinctly African lens, engaging urgently with global conversations on climate justice, ancestral memory, youth disillusionment, and cultural identity.
This is more than a performance; it is an encounter with history, ecology, and belief systems that continue to shape our present.
